At-home COVID-19 Tests Are Free Again This Winter

The Biden Administration made at-home, rapid COVID-19 tests free through a limited round of ordering.

Starting Thursday, households can order a total of four at-home COVID-19 tests at COVIDTests.gov and get them mailed for free.

Orders for this round will begin to ship starting the week of December 19 and continue in the weeks ahead.

The Biden Administration says it used limited existing funding to buy more at-home COVID-19 tests as the cases of infection are increasing.

As of December 7, the 7-day average of weekly new cases increased 49.6% compared with the previous 7-day average, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The free at-home COVID-19 test program was shut down in September because Congress did not allocate additional funding to replenish the US stockpile.
