French Hospital Cancels Operations Following Cyberattacks

A hospital in France suspended operations and transferred some patients after being hit by cyberattacks over the weekend.

Six patients, including three from the intensive care unit, were transferred from the André-Mignot hospital near the capital Paris to other facilities, France24 reports.

As screens in the intensive care unit were disconnected from the network, extra staff was called in to monitor them.

The Paris prosecutors office has opened a preliminary investigation into hacking state data and attempted extortion, following a formal complaint filed by the hospital.

In August, another hospital in France suffered a ransomware attack. As the hospital refused to pay, cybercriminals exposed confidential data on the dark web.

Healthcare institutions are increasingly targeted by cyberattacks, which may result in increased mortality rates and leave patients vulnerable to scams.
