The products in question were distributed to six major United States retailers and may contain pineapple contaminated with listeria.
On June 21, Sunrise Growers Inc., a subsidiary of SunOpta Inc., issued a voluntary recall of nearly 20 frozen fruit products due to potential contamination with listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled products may contain contaminated pineapple provided to the company by a third-party supplier.

The FDA urges consumers to check their freezers to see if they have purchased the recalled frozen fruit products. Moreover, the agency says people should not eat these specific products and discard or return them to the retail store for a full refund.
Retailers have already been notified of the company’s recall and instructed to remove the products from their inventory.
Listeria is a bacterium that can cause symptoms including fever, headache, nausea, and diarrhea. However, the illness can be severe or life-threatening in people with weakened immune systems, young children, and older adults. In addition, listeria can cause miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant individuals.
However, so far, no cases of listeria have been reported due to this recall, the FDA says.
